Band Governance Management System (BGMS):
Federal system for tracking Indian Act entities, like codes for reserves, bands, tribal councils, etc..
Canada Lands Survey Records (CLSR):
Federal parcel maps.
Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC):
Federal ministry (aka Indian Affairs). Provides various types of data. Use ATIP to request archived data from them (no cost for ATIP requests from CIRNAC).
NOTE: CIRNAC used to be the ministry known as Indian Affairs.
Elections Canada – Electoral Boundaries:
Electoral boundaries for latest election. Email EC for archived boundaries.
Government of British Columbia – Data Catalogue:
Public datasets provided by the BC government.
Government of Canada – Open Government Portal:
Public datasets provided by the federal government.
Health Canada – MAID reports:
Annual MAID reports, provincial level is the smallest geographical unit. It is difficult to acquire any geographical unit smaller than that due to bureaucratic processes involved with ATIP.
NOTE: The actual agency tasked with compiling MAID data from all levels is the Canadian Institute for Health Information. CIHI is exempt from the ATIP mandate. Provinces send MAID data from the clinic level to Health Canada, where it is more or less processed for federal analysis/reports.
INSTAT:
A government agency that appears to be under the greater CIRNAC umbrella. INSTAT curates demographic data for bands and reserves, including archived datasets on population, gender, etc.. Contact them by email with data requests.
National Fire Database (NFDB):
Federal database that compiles historical wildfire data as recorded and submitted by the provinces. Has both point and polygon datasets. Curated by Natural Resources Canada.
Statistics Canada:
Statistical datasets provided by the federal government, particularly Census data.
