Organizations of Interest

Overview

This is a list of organizations of interest noted throughout investigations as operating in BC.

World Government

30 by 30

  • Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework, signed by 195 UN member states in December, 2022 (including Canada).
  • Goal of “protecting 30% of lands and waters by 2030”, primarily through FN governance. This basically means the agenda is to close off at least 30% of BC’s territory to any kind of economic development or productive industry.

Canadian Government

CIRNAC

Natural Resources Canada

Statistics Canada

First Nations

Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCA)

  • More of a concept. Essentially land use agreements with bands/tribal councils, where bands dictate what happens on that land, especially in terms of economic development.
  • These IPCAs align with the “30 by 30” agenda.

A-Tlegay Member Nations

  • FN alliance over coastal fishing rights.
  • K’ómoks First Nation, Kwiakah First Nation, Tlowitsis Nation, We Wai Kai Nation, and Wei Wai Kum First Nation
  • Ottawa signed an agreement with them on February 24 2026.

Non-Government Organization

BC Conservation Fund

  • A subsidiary of the BC Parks Foundation.

BC Parks Foundation

  • Purchases properties like ranches (anecdotal) and other rural areas, holds them as land holdings under the pretense of heritage sites, parks and “Indigenous protected areas”.
  • Part of the “30 by 30” United Nations scheme.
  • Ties with the BC Conservation Fund.

BC Wildlife Federation

  • Represents public stakeholders in regards to issues like hunting/fishing regulations and wildlife conservation.

Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program

  • Tied with IPCAs, FN bands, Crown corporations, BC and Federal government.

Islands Trust

In their own words, “Islands Trust is a special purpose government mandated to preserve and protect over 450 Islands in the Salish Sea.” Appears to be missing the actual word for what they are.

  • Bowen Island has a special “IM” (Island Municipality) status in the Census Subdivision dataset. This falls under the Islands Trust jurisdiction.
